What is a Sentence and Its Types?
WHAT IS A SENTENCES?
A sentence is a grammatically complete string of words
expressing a complete thought. It typically includes a subject, which is the
person or thing the sentence is about, and a predicate, which is the action or
state of being the subject is or is doing. Sentences can be written or spoken
and can express a wide range of thoughts, ideas, and emotions. They can be
simple or complex and can vary in length from a single word to several
sentences.

1) Declarative Sentence:
A declarative sentence makes a statement and expresses a fact or an opinion. It typically ends with a period.
EXAMPLES OF DECLARATIVE SENTENCES
1) The sky is blue.
2) I am feeling happy today.
3) She plays the piano beautifully.
NOTE: As you can see from the examples above, declarative sentences can be used to express a wide range of thoughts, ideas, and information, including facts, opinions, and descriptions. They are the most common type of sentence and are used to convey information in a straightforward and clear manner.
2) IMPERATIVE SENTENCE:
An imperative sentence gives a command or makes a request. It is used to tell someone to do something, or to give instructions or advice. It typically ends with a period.
EXAMPLES OF IMPERATIVE SENTENCES:
1) Close the door.
2) Please pass the salt.
3) Take out the trash.
NOTE: Imperative sentences are often used in
situations where a speaker wants to give an order, direction, or instruction to
someone. They can also be used to make a request or offer advice. Notice how in
English, imperative sentences often lacks a subject and is formed only by the
verb in its base form, as in "Close the door" instead of "You
close the door."
3) EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE:
An exclamatory sentence expresses strong emotion and ends with an exclamation mark. It is used to show excitement, surprise, or emphasis.
EXAMPLES OF EXCLAMATORY SENTENCES:
1) Wow! That was amazing!
2) Oh no! I'm late!
3) Hurray! We won the game!
NOTE: Exclamatory sentences are often used to show
strong emotion, such as excitement, surprise, or emphasis. They can also be
used to show enthusiasm or to express a strong reaction to something. The
exclamation mark at the end of the sentence is used to indicate that the
speaker is expressing strong feeling.
4) INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE
An interrogative sentence is a sentence that asks a question and typically ends with a question mark.
EXAMPLES OF INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES:
1) What is your name?
2) Where are you going?
3) How old are you?
4) Did you finish your homework?
NOTE: Interrogative sentences are used to ask for
information or clarification. They can be in different forms, like yes-no
questions, alternative questions and wh-questions.
Interrogative sentences can start with a variety of
words, including "who," "what," "when,"
"where," "why," and "how," depending on the type
of information being sought. The question mark at the end of the sentence is
used to indicate that a question is being asked.
